A Journey from Hobby to Full-Scale Business

Can you please share your journey and what inspired you to start Inredningsvis?

- Maria: "It was my new boyfriend back in 2012 who came with the great idea to start a blog about home decor. He had a travel blog himself and knew all about webpages. I knew nothing about websites, but I knew how to write since I’m a writer. And soon the hobby blog grew into a full publicist business. Today, I have worked with hundreds of companies and have been featured in many well-known Swedish media outlets. I show with my story that you can actually take a hobby and grow it into a full-scale job! It’s just about believing in yourself, having fun, and never giving up, even when it gets tough."

The Essence of Scandinavian Interior Design

With your extensive experience, how do you define the essence of Scandinavian interior design?

- Maria: "It’s a simple, clean, and minimalistic style. Right now, we see lots of beige shades, wooden materials, and plenty of plants and greenery. I think the Scandi style is so popular abroad because it’s so simple yet stylish."

Trends Shaping Scandinavian Interiors in 2024

What are the latest trends in Scandinavian interior design for 2024?

- Maria: "For 2024, the key trends include a futuristic retro style, eco-friendliness, sustainability, multifunctional furniture, wooden materials, and lots of green plants. You can read more in my post about Interior Trends 2024, which covers the ten hottest trends in detail."

Futuristic Retro Style

Combining elements from past decades with modern design principles, the futuristic retro style brings a nostalgic yet forward-looking aesthetic. Think sleek furniture with vintage curves and bold color palettes balanced by minimalist decor.

Eco-Friendliness and Sustainability

Sustainability continues to be a central theme in Scandinavian design.

From using recycled materials to energy-efficient appliances, the focus is on creating homes that are not only beautiful but also environmentally responsible.

Multifunctional Furniture

In line with the minimalist ethos, multifunctional furniture is becoming increasingly popular. Pieces that can serve multiple purposes—like a sofa that turns into a bed or a coffee table with storage—are ideal for maximizing space and functionality.

Emphasis on Wooden Materials

Wood remains a staple in Scandinavian interiors, celebrated for its natural beauty and warmth.

Expect to see a variety of wood tones, from light pine to rich oak, used in everything from flooring to furniture.

Greenery and Plants

Plants are a simple yet effective way to bring life and color into a space. In 2024, the trend is to incorporate a variety of plants, from small potted herbs to large indoor trees, creating a connection with nature.

The Role of 3D Technology in Modern Design

How is 3D technology being used in Scandinavian interior design today?

- Maria: "I think the US still leads in the 3D market, but we see more 3D planning in the interior and real estate markets in Sweden. Many people like to plan their new houses with 3D before they actually do the decoration in real life. Additionally, many companies use 3D for B2B purposes when planning large stores."

What advantages do you see in using 3D room planners and 3D visualization software for designers and clients?

- Maria: "The main advantage is that you can actually see the result of the interiors before it happens. It’s excellent for planning both small and large spaces, giving a clear visualization that helps in making informed decisions."

3D Technology and Interior Design

3D technology is not just a tool for product visualization; it’s also a powerful planning resource.

Designers can experiment with different layouts, color schemes, and furniture arrangements without any physical alterations. Clients can take virtual tours of their future homes, ensuring that every detail is to their liking before construction begins.

The Global Influence of Scandinavian Design

How do you see the influence of Scandinavian design trends evolving on a global scale?

- Maria: "I think Scandinavia has a significant influence on a global scale already. Like Ikea, for instance, it’s huge both in the US and in Asia. We’re going to keep spreading the message of simple, clean, yet stylish decor."

The Future of Scandinavian Influence

As the world becomes more interconnected, the exchange of design ideas is likely to accelerate. Scandinavian design, with its focus on sustainability and simplicity, is well-positioned to lead this global conversation, offering solutions that are both stylish and environmentally conscious.

Exciting Upcoming Projects and Events

Can you share any upcoming trends or projects that you are particularly excited about?

- Maria: "Its the yearly Formex show in Stockholm now in the end of the August. Where both older and newer designers and interior stores show off their products. Its a fun event where you can connect with designer people from all over Sweden, but also from abroad."

Highlights of the Formex Show

The Formex show is a major event in the Scandinavian design calendar, featuring everything from innovative home decor products to cutting-edge design concepts. It’s an excellent opportunity to see the latest trends up close and to meet the creative minds behind them.

Networking and Collaboration

Events like Formex are also crucial for networking and collaboration. They bring together designers, manufacturers, and retailers, fostering relationships that can lead to exciting new projects and partnerships.
